Determining and Interpreting PVT Properties and Phase Behaviour of Petroleum Reservoir Fluids
After participating in this course you will be able to do the following:
- distinguish reservoir fluids based on their phase behavior characteristics
- design appropriate sampling programs for reservoir fluid acquisition
- select non-representative samples from multiple data sources
- determine liquid and gas volumes using flash analysis
- use laboratory test results to determine reservoir fluid properties
- perform in-place volume calculations
- make production forecasts
Description
The pressure-volume-temperature (PVT) behaviour of reservoir fluids is a valuable data set used for reservoir engineering estimates of recovery potential. This course provides a basis for the systematic acquisition of representative fluid samples. Participants will then learn how to use these samples to determine the fluid properties required for the prediction of reservoir recovery and the production forecast of non-thermal recovery mechanisms.
The knowledge gained from this course is vital for the development of new oil and gas fields, the design of surface gathering systems and processing facilities, and the design of waterflood and other enhanced recovery schemes. Skills learned in this course will also enable participants to do reservoir-engineering calculations for the determination of initial in-place volume, hydrocarbon reserves and production forecasts, and reservoir simulation.
