Best Practices for Pothole Repairs in Canada

Dealing with Potholes – How do we make this Stop?

Potholes in asphalt concrete pavements are the bane of both drivers and road infrastructure managers across the country. The origin of a pothole can be variable resulting from defects in the production, transportation and placement of asphalt concrete, weak pavement materials and sub-grade, repetitive heavy traffic, climatic changes and lack of timely preventive maintenance.

While potholes can occur at any time of year, they are more prevalent in the late winter/early spring in areas that are subject to repetitive freezing and thawing of water near the pavement surface. Potholes cause damage to the pavement, allow more water to infiltrate the pavement and can be a safety hazard for the traveling public.

This webinar examines the political, technical and financial impact of potholes on both municipal road networks and the cost to repair damage caused to vehicles.
