21 Professional Development Hours

After participating in this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of hydropower generation and associated issues
  • Collaborate effectively with other professionals about hydropower project design
  • Evaluate problems and take necessary steps from Hydrotechnical points of view
  • Pursue correct hydraulic design, analysis and modelling required for hydropower projects
  • Provide necessary Hydrotechnical support for hydropower generation, operation, and maintenance

Description
Hydrotechnical design and analysis is one of the first steps for the development of Hydropower Projects. Hydrotechnical investigation ensures the viability of a project. Proper Hydrotechnical design is critical for the efficient use of water resources to maximize energy production, and limit environmental, social, and public safety impacts of Hydropower Projects.

This course teaches the applications of Hydrology and Hydraulics for Hydropower Engineering while providing a fundamental understanding of Hydropower Projects and the contributions of a Hydrotechnical Engineer. Participants gain valuable insights into the essential aspects of hydropower generation and project development. This training is particularly helpful for recent graduates and young professionals, as they can connect their academic knowledge with real-life scenarios in the Hydropower industry. By the end, participants will be prepared for interdisciplinary collaboration and be able to provide essential Hydrotechnical support for hydropower generation, operation, and maintenance.

Who Should Attend
In general, Engineers and Science graduates with fundamental knowledge of Hydrology and Hydraulics should be able to significantly enhance their competency to serve in Hydropower Projects.

Civil, Water Resources, and Environmental Engineers who are interested in developing expertise in Hydrotechnical Engineering to support Hydropower Projects will find this course particularly beneficial. This includes recent engineering graduates who are looking to apply their academic knowledge in a professional setting, as well as engineering consultants who serve Hydropower generating companies and require specialized skills to enhance their services. Additionally, design engineers working in Hydropower utility companies can improve their understanding and practical approach for successful project outcomes and operational efficiency.

This course will also provide valuable insight for Engineering Managers, Business Developers, Operators, and Owners of small hydro-utilities about the important roles and responsibilities of Hydrotechnical Engineers for the success of Hydropower Projects. This course will inform the employers of the skills and expertise their employees should develop and the tools they should acquire to effectively contribute to Hydropower Projects.
