Design of Irrigation Systems Using EPANET Software
After participating in this course, you will be able to:
- have a detailed knowledge of irrigation system equipment and components (sprinkler irrigation and micro-irrigation)
- have a basic understanding of irrigation system hydraulics and flow principles
- have a working knowledge of how to work with EPANET software
- have gained experience designing and applying EPANET to design an irrigation system
Description
One of the most important aspects of farm and landscape design for those involved in the irrigation industry is the design of an optimal irrigation system. From choosing the right layout, equipment and sprinklers/emitters to setting the amount of water, proper irrigation is essential. The main focus of this course is to provide necessary information for professionals designing and operating sprinkler and micro irrigation systems for farms/landscapes by calculating water requirements based on evapotranspiration, soil and plant root zone water storage capacity.
EPANET software is one of the interesting water distribution system modelling software packages developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). EPANET is widely used to perform extended-period simulation of the hydraulic and water quality behaviour within irrigation systems, which consist of pipes, nodes (junctions), pumps, valves, storage tanks, and reservoirs. This training course learn how to use EPANET for the hydraulic simulations of irrigation systems. During the course, design steps will be highlighted through several simple examples and the practical examples are illustrated to show how to apply the EPANET software in the practice of pressurized irrigation systems.
