After participating in this course, you will be able to:
- Understand principles and techniques for the removal of contaminants from contaminated groundwater and soil by using microbial processes
- Learn about the technologies that are commonly used in site decontamination operations
- Evaluate and compare the performances of several technologies in the remediation of a contaminated site
- Develop a better understanding of the design aspects of site decontamination processes
- Apply your knowledge of various bioremediation technologies to site decontamination projects
Description
This course provides information on the application of bioremediation principles and techniques for the removal of contaminants from contaminated sites. It addresses biodegradation principles and kinetics, nature of contaminants, soil and groundwater characteristics, contaminant transport in the subsurface, and describes in situ and ex situ removal techniques. Selected technologies including biobarriers, natural attenuation, bioventing, air sparging, ex situ bioreactors and solid-phase decontamination will be discussed during this course.
