Description
The course provides a concise overview of microaggressions. These everyday, subtle interactions or behaviours communicate some bias against historically marginalized groups and anyone from any background. The difference between microaggressions and overt discrimination or macroaggressions is that people who commit microaggressions might not even be aware of them.
These actions may not necessarily have harmful intent but can be interpreted as slights, indignities, put-downs, and insults. Microaggression awareness is essential for Technical Professionals. This is because social perceptiveness -- being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do - is a core skill for practitioners. As arbiters of truth and guardians of sensitive personal and company information, practitioners must be effective communicators and active listeners to earn and retain the trust of clients, co-workers and business partners from every segment of society.
You'll walk away from the course with a foundational awareness of microaggressions and how to address all people more inclusively and respectfully. You'll also discover how to communicate more empathetically and in nuanced ways that integrate more complex world views.
