4 Professional Development Hours

After participating in this course, you will be able to:

  • Know where in the workplace Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews [PSRs] might apply and what to do if you are not certain
  • Create a documented process for the evaluation of whether a Pre-Start Health and Safety Review is [PSR] is required
  • Document an exemption to a PSR
  • Be able to determine the requirements of a competent evaluator

Description

This course is designed for the person(s) assigned by the employer to evaluate whether a PSR is required in their workplace [the Evaluator].

The Industrial Establishments Regulation of Ontario requires that a Professional Engineer’s Review [the PSR] be prepared whenever a new or modified “apparatus, structure or protective element or process” involves any of the following: flammable liquids, safeguarding devices, racks and stacking structures, risk of ignition/explosion, dust collectors, molten metals, lifting devices or designated substances.  In these circumstances the employer is required to conduct a documented evaluation to determine whether a PSR is required.

The course will guide the evaluator through the legislated obligations and accountabilities of the workplace parties in evaluating whether a PSR is required and assist them in developing a documented process for that evaluation.
