Metallurgy for the Non-Metallurgist

After participating in this course you will be able to do the following:

  • Instill the WOW factor that is inherent in working with and fabricating metals
  • Recognize potential impacts of metal fabrication on the metallurgy of metals
  • Recognize potential impacts of the metallurgy of metals on metal fabrication
  • Recognize that each engineering field has its own unique metallurgical problems
  • Recognize that all the trades such as welders, machinists, engineers, shotpeeners, foundry mold casters, pressure vessel and pipeline fabricators, and electricians have inter-related effects on how their fabrications and work will handle the actual work environment either before or after repairs or construction
  • Learn the basics of metallurgy

Description
Metal workers and all the associated trades that deal with metals, including engineers, all need an understanding of basic metallurgy. This course provides the fundamentals without delving into complicated theories and concepts. It delivers a basic understanding of what happens when metal is first formed, worked, welded or machined.

Using PowerPoint presentations and dozens of short video clips, a lot of information will be provided in an interesting manner that is suitable to a large variety of education, training and experience levels, from the apprentice and journeyperson to the experienced fabricator to those just newly initiated into the world of fabrication or contemplating entering it.
