By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Evaluate the performance and operating characteristics of positive displacement and centrifugal pump systems
  • Apply applicable pump and piping codes, standards, and best practices to support safe and reliable system design
  • Analyze pipe flow behaviour, pressure losses, and their impact on operational efficiency and equipment performance
  • Assess pump and piping condition using inspection, monitoring, and maintenance data
  • Identify common pump and piping system problems and implement practical measures to improve reliability and performance

Description

Pumps and piping systems are critical to the safe and efficient operation of industrial facilities, yet many performance issues arise from how these systems are selected, installed, operated, and maintained rather than from the equipment itself. Challenges such as cavitation, excessive pressure losses, mechanical stress, and premature component failure can compromise reliability, increase operating costs, and elevate risk if not properly understood and managed.

This course focuses on the practical application of pump and piping fundamentals in real operating environments. You will examine how positive displacement and centrifugal pumps behave under varying conditions, how fluid flow and pressure losses influence system performance, and how codes and standards shape design and operational decisions. Emphasis is placed on understanding why problems occur and how design, operating, and maintenance choices directly affect reliability and safety.

Through structured explanations, worked examples, and case-based workshops, you will develop the skills needed to evaluate pump and piping systems holistically. The course equips you with practical tools to support equipment selection, commissioning, inspection, condition monitoring, and maintenance decisions, enabling you to improve system performance across a range of industrial applications.
