POWER SYSTEMS TRAINING ONLINE with
E-Worx

EPIC Partnership with E-Worx Training

EPIC has partnered with E-Worx Training to provide an excellent source of online training courses for power and electrical topics.

E-Worx was created to make over 40 years’ worth of industry experience and expertise available online. Every module has been updated and reviewed by Dr. Khella and practicing engineers to make sure it meets the needs of today’s industry and professionals.

In addition to revising and updating the course content, which included developing a special module for non-technical staff, E-Worx collaborated with instructional designers, writers, actors and digital filmmakers to optimize the content for the E-Worx training platform.

ONLINE POWER SYSTEMS TRAINING COURSES FOR BOTH TECHNICAL AND NON-TECHNICAL STAFF

EWorx-1   SAGS, TENSIONS AND GUYING OF DISTRIBUTION POLES

Introduces the regulations governing pole lines, mainly ESA Regulation 22/04 and CSA Guidelines. We survey the components of the overhead system, analyze the forces on poles and talk about grades of construction and load factors, followed by a detailed study of sags, tensions, clearances and the guying of poles. Finally, we cover the software options available for these calculations.

Modules in this course:
  • ST1: Introduction to Sags, Tensions and Guying for Distribution Circuits
  • ST2: Forces and Loads in Overhead Distribution Systems
  • ST3: Sags and Tensions in an Overhead Distribution System
  • ST4: Guying of Overhead Distribution Circuits

EWorx-1   APPLICATION AND PERFORMANCE OF POWER DISTRIBUTION EQUIPMENT

Provides a foundation for understanding and working with power distribution systems. We start with the science and engineering behind power systems and then examine in detail the components that make up a modern distribution network.

Modules in this course:
  • EQ1: Introduction to Power Distribution Systems
  • EQ2: Overhead Distribution System
  • EQ3: Underground Distribution System
  • EQ4: Distribution Transformers
  • EQ5: Distribution Substations
  • EQ6: Underground Residential Distribution

EWorx-1   GROUNDING IN ELECTRICAL POWER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS

Explores the complex topic of grounding, essential to any power system, not only to protect equipment but the public at large. An introductory module looks at why we ground, how abnormalities arise in power circuits, and how the human body tolerates electricity. We then examine typical grounding systems, grounding system components, and the design of ground grids.

Modules in this course:
  • GD1: Introduction to Grounding of Power Distribution Systems
  • GD2: Analysis of Grounding Systems for Distribution Circuits
  • GD3: Grounding System Components and Designs

EWorx-1   PROTECTION OF POWER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS

Covers the complex topic of Power System Protection and Coordination. After an introductory overview, we look at short-circuit calculations, fuses, and the protection of distribution transformers, feeders and lines. Finally, we’ll look at substations, overvoltage protection and ferroresonance.

Modules in this course:
  • PC1: Introduction to Protection and Coordination of Distribution Circuits Course
  • PC2: Short Circuit Calculations Course
  • PC3: Fuses for Distribution Circuits Course
  • PC4: Protection for Distribution Transformers Course
  • PC5: Protection for Distribution Feeders and Lines Course
  • PC6: Protection for Distribution Substation Transformers Course
  • PC7: Protection for Overvoltage and Ferroresonance in Distribution Circuits Course

EWorx-1   POWER SYSTEM FUNDAMENTALS FOR NON-TECHNICAL STAFF

Covers the basics of power delivery systems. The components and concepts are described in accessible language intended to give general audiences an appreciation of the complex network that delivers power to end-users.

Modules in this course:
  • PF1: Fundamentals of Electric Power
  • PF2: Circuit Fundamentals
  • PF3: Grounding for People And Equipment
  • PF4: Protecting Equipment When Things Go Wrong
  • PF5: Keeping Poles Straight and Wires Up
  • PF6: Revenue Metering Basics

HOW IT WORKS
EWorx-Splash

Log on remotely and securely from anywhere and at any time – so it’s easy to schedule training around work and family commitments. Online access cuts travel time for employees, and travel costs for the company. It also means that employees don’t need to take extended absences from work to take courses.

With E-Worx self-paced Power Distribution Courses and its workbook, people can work through the material at their own speed. Each course module can be paused and saved, rewound or repeated at any time for improved comprehension and retention. By accommodating different learning styles, E-Worx helps to improve learning outcomes.

ABOUT DR. WALLAS KHELLA, Ph.D., P. Eng., SLMIEEE, FEIC

Dr. Khella has been recognized with many awards, including The Silver Merit Award and the IEEE Third Millennium Medal, for his contributions to the IEEA and to the engineering profession.

in 1973, Dr. Khella began delivering a course in power distribution equipment as part of IEEE Toronto's educational program. This course proved to be very popular, and over time, he developed other specialized training courses in response to repeated requests from participants. These courses provided the foundation for the E-Worx Training curriculum.
