Overview

After participating in this course, you will be able to:

  • Evaluate existing bridges and plan their rehabilitation and strengthening program

Description
Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code enhances confidence and efficiency of bridge engineers, inspectors and contractors.

The code includes loads, simplified method of analysis, new highway bridge design, and existing highway bridge evaluation and rehabilitation. This course covers the main advancements to bridge technology through case studies.

Special Feature
This course includes case studies providing detailed bridge design in steel, concrete, and pre-stressed concrete, retaining structures, and evaluation and rehabilitation. For each case study, a reference to the relevant code article will be presented. We suggest that you bring a copy of the new Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (S6-19) and Commentary (S6.1-19) along with a calculator.

The instructor will be presenting several detailed examples, with reference to the various relevant chapters and articles of the new code.

Instructor

Adel R. Zaki, P.Eng.

Adel R. Zaki is the chief engineer of bridges and structures with SNC-Lavalin. In his 38 years in civil engineering practice, Mr. Zaki has been engaged by Canada’s foremost engineering consulting firms, becoming an expert in the design and management for major bridge projects in North America and internationally.

In 1995, the World Bank recognized Mr. Zaki as an international specialist for his professional services in planning, project management and the design of railway and highway infrastructures.

Mr. Zaki has published more than twenty technical papers on bridges and received merit awards from the CSCE, the ACI, and the PCI. He is a member of numerous associations and committees including the Order of Engineers of Quebec, Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC, American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association, Transportation Research Board, Technical Committee of the CSA Bridge Code S6-14, and the International Association of Bridges and Structures.
