Overview

Please note, This instructor-led course has specific dates and times:
This course is held online over 2 days on the following schedule (All times in Eastern Time Zone):

9:30 am to 5:30 pm Eastern (Will include the usual breaks)

After participating in this course, you will be able to:

  • Apply your knowledge of soil mechanics to the design and implementation of retaining and shoring systems.
  • Implement the necessary requirements, procedures, and techniques for the safe, effective, and efficient retaining and shoring systems design.
  • Practice and adhere to trenching and shoring safety precautions to ensure compliance with national competency standards.
  • Utilize equations and load calculations derived for shoring design and apply these to real-world scenarios.
  • Design various earth-supporting systems, including sheet pile walls, braced cuts, and tieback anchors, using practical design examples to translate theory into practice.

Description
This comprehensive course provides hands-on training in shoring design, crucial for ensuring the stability and safety of excavation projects. Understanding shoring design is vital because improper shoring can lead to dangerous collapses, endangering workers and delaying construction projects. By mastering these skills, you contribute to safer and more efficient construction practices, adhering to national competency standards for primary ground support installation.

Throughout the course, you will revisit essential soil mechanics concepts and learn how to apply this knowledge to trenching and shoring design. You will learn the fundamental equations and load calculations needed for shoring design, providing you with a solid theoretical foundation.

Participants will explore and design earth-supporting systems, such as sheet pile walls, braced cuts, and tieback anchors. Illustrated design examples will demonstrate how to translate theoretical knowledge into practical, real-world applications, ensuring the expertise needed to implement safe and effective shoring solutions in your projects.

Who Should Attend
This course is ideal for civil and municipal engineers, project engineers and managers, consultants, designers, operation and maintenance personnel, developers, and planners.

If you are involved in the planning, designing, or implementing shoring and retaining systems, this course will enhance your skills and knowledge, ensuring you can effectively and safely apply soil mechanics principles in your projects.
