Description

Culverts are a critical, component of our drainage system which protects people and property from the damaging effect of floods. Assessment and review of designs and condition reports are an important function in asset management in todays setting of fiscal restraint.

The course was prepared for managers, reviewers, technicians, and inspectors who need a basic understanding of the design, installation, and inspection of culverts during their useful life. This course provides the fundamentals without delving into complicated mathematical formulas. Lectures will include real life examples and simple hands-on exercises and problem-solving.

Instructor

Nav Sandhu, P.Eng.

Nav Sandhu, P.Eng., is a Senior Water Resources Engineer with over 18 years of experience. He has extensive experience in stormwater management and drainage planning and design throughout Canada, ranging from servicing /planning studies to detailed design of complex systems. His stormwater infrastructure design experience includes storm sewer systems, culverts, above and below ground detention and water quality facilities, diversion structures, control and outfall structures, infiltration systems, rip-rap protection works, instream rehabilitation works. He’s also experienced in base-flow augmentation, source control/rainwater management and other LID systems-relatively new techniques that support sustainable design.

His stormwater engineering knowledge, coupled with municipal, and development, and highway experience, makes him an excellent resource for a range of clients. He has also provided expert opinion and reports or legal proceedings related to drainage throughout BC.
