Overview

Please note, This instructor-led course has specific dates and times:
This course is held online over 3 days on the following schedule (All times in Eastern Time Zone):

10:00 am to 6:00 pm Eastern (Will include the usual breaks)

After participating in this course, you will be able to:

  • Analyze existing systems for any possible problems, maintenance and rehabilitation
  • Recognize the numerous issues to consider when planning sewer and stormwater drainage systems at a given site
  • Design sanitary sewer and stormwater drainage systems to meet given planning objectives

Description
Eighty percent of a municipality’s problems are caused by twenty percent of its sanitary sewers and stormwater drainage systems. The best way to avoid future problems is to pay greater attention to them during the design phase. This three-day workshop is aimed at those who want to hone their skills in sanitary sewer and stormwater drainage systems design, and stormwater management.

In a workshop setting, under the guidance of your instructor, you will complete a sanitary sewer and stormwater drainage system design and use a case study to discuss and develop a plan to mitigate the environmental impact caused by urban development and the management of stormwater.

Course Outline:

  • Sanitary sewer system
  • Planning for a sanitary sewer system
  • Sanitary sewer system design
  • Sewer maintenance and rehabilitation
  • Hydrology and hydraulics - a review
  • Estimating stormwater runoff
  • Stormwater drainage system
  • Stormwater impact mitigation
  • Workshop detention pond design
  • Sanitary sewer and pump stations

Who Should Attend
Consulting Engineers • Municipal Engineers • Civil Project Engineers • Construction Managers • Engineering Field Managers • Works Engineers • Public Works Directors • City Engineers • Superintendents of Operations • Wastewater System Managers • Safety Inspectors and Procurement Officers • EITs • Technicians and Technologists • Sewer Construction Contractors

Special Features & Requirements
The course notes will be provided in electronic format.

Please download and install the following information:

Please test the installed software. When it opens do you see a map of Canada with a lot of green dots? - If yes, then you have been successful. - If no, then please open a File Explorer and go to the folder where the EC Software was installed. Typically this will be C:/Program Files (x86)/EC/ECDataExplorer/Support. In this folder will be a program from Microsoft, AccessRuntime.exe. Please run this program to install a Microsoft Access Database viewer that is used by the Environment Canada Data Explorer. Test the Data Explorer again to confirm that the map of Canada and the green dots appear. If they appear the program has been successfully installed.

  • IDF Data - Environment Canada has made some changes to the IDF data. Here is their latest set of instructions. Note for everyone, that the Google App is no longer available and that the link as shown should be used to access the information. -Instructor suggests that the link be placed on the desktop to allow for easy access.
  • Stream Gauging software. In this folder will be a program from Microsoft AccessRuntime.exe. Please run this to install a Microsoft Access Database viewer that is used by the Environment Canada Data Explorer. Then test the Data Explorer again to confirm that the map of Canada and the green dots appear. The program has been successfully set up.
