Overview
This course is held online over 2 days on the following schedule (All times in Eastern Time Zone):
9:30 am to 5:30 pm Eastern (Will include the usual breaks)
After attending this course, you will be able to:
- Strengthen your skills in urban drainage system design
- Apply your knowledge of basic hydrology and hydraulics to drainage design problems
- Develop a better understanding of technical design issues by focusing on related planning and environmental impact considerations
- Apply your learnt techniques to enhance the protection of property owners from flood drainage and reduce pollution at a lower cost
Description
To design an effective urban drainage and stormwater management system, knowledge of the technical design principles for each system component is required. After a brief refresher of basic hydrology, this seminar focuses on the practical application of sound planning and design practices, specific stormwater management techniques, and the latest trends toward alternative green infrastructure designs.
Case studies will be presented to demonstrate, in practical terms, the pros and cons of alternative strategies, how to avoid pitfalls and the characteristics of successfully designed systems. The uniqueness of this course is its emphasis on hands-on exercises for designing the various components of drainage and stormwater management systems.

Instructor

Nav Sandhu, P.Eng., is a Senior Water Resources Engineer with 20 years of experience. He has extensive experience in stormwater management and drainage planning and design throughout Canada, ranging from servicing /planning studies to detailed design of complex systems. His stormwater infrastructure design experience includes storm sewer systems, culverts, above and below ground detention and water quality facilities, diversion structures, control and outfall structures, infiltration systems, rip-rap protection works, instream rehabilitation works. He’s also experienced in base-flow augmentation, source control/rainwater management and other LID systems-relatively new techniques that support sustainable design.
His stormwater engineering knowledge, coupled with municipal, and development, and highway experience, makes him an excellent resource for a range of clients. He has also provided expert opinion and reports or legal proceedings related to drainage throughout BC.
