Description

Rising energy costs, aging infrastructure, and increasing sustainability expectations are placing growing pressure on organizations to improve energy performance without compromising productivity, reliability, or operational objectives. Whether you are responsible for facilities, operations, engineering, maintenance, or capital planning, identifying meaningful energy savings opportunities requires more than simply reducing consumption. It requires understanding how energy is used throughout a facility and where the greatest opportunities for improvement exist.

This course provides a practical introduction to energy engineering principles and energy management strategies used in industrial and commercial facilities. You will explore how different forms of energy are consumed, measured, monitored, and managed, while gaining practical insight into the systems that have the greatest impact on facility energy performance. The course examines key energy conservation opportunities in electrical systems, lighting, HVAC, compressed air, steam systems, and cogeneration applications, along with the role of energy monitoring and management systems in supporting continuous improvement.

Through practical examples, engineering calculations, and real-world applications, you will learn how to evaluate energy performance, identify improvement opportunities, and support cost-effective energy management initiatives. The techniques presented can be applied immediately to help reduce energy intensity, improve operational efficiency, strengthen asset performance, and support long-term sustainability goals.

Instructor

S. Bobby Rauf, BSEE, P.E., C.E.M, MBA

Professor Bobby Rauf has developed and instructed engineering courses, seminars and workshops for over 14 years in the US and abroad.

He holds a patent on an electrical control system. Mr. Rauf has authored four books:

  • Finance and Accounting for Energy Engineers
  • Thermodynamics Made Simple for Energy Engineers
  • Electrical Engineering for Non-Electrical Engineers

Mr. Rauf served as a Senior Staff Engineer, Energy and Ergonomics Program Manager, at PPG Industries, Inc, for over 30 years. He has served as Adjunct Professor at Gardner-Webb University since 1989. He has taught Professional Development Seminars/workshops at UNCC, McNeese University, Texas A&M University, Lamar University, AEE, Association of Energy Engineers, Balfour Beatty, Saudi Aramco and CED Engineering.

Prof. Rauf is a Licensed (PE) Professional Engineer and a Certified Energy Manager. He was inducted as a “Legend in Energy” by AEE in 2014.
