This course is held online over 4 days on the following schedule (All times in Eastern Time Zone):

10:00 am to 5:00 pm Eastern (There will be a one-hour lunch break each day in addition to a number of breaks during each day.)

After participating in this course, you will be able to:

  • Apply your knowledge of the characteristics of air and water HVAC systems and their associated equipment
  • Understand the latest regulations and safety considerations associated with HVAC systems
  • Learn how to plan, control and implement the balancing and commissioning of HVAC systems to achieve optimum system performance and economy
  • Recognize areas in the commissioning process that could result in difficulties
  • Identify and communicate system deficiencies

Description
With increasing energy costs and growing indoor air quality concerns it is essential that new or rehabilitated HVAC systems operate effectively and in an economic manner. Further, to minimize maintenance costs, the system must have sustained reliability. Although the design of the system is obviously of importance, a well-designed system may fail to accomplish the requirements of effectiveness, economy and sustainability unless the correct commissioning processes are planned and implemented.

This course provides information on the operating principles of HVAC systems, including air properties, air conditioning processes, refrigeration fundamentals and HVAC related components.

Mohamed Hamed

Dr. Mohamed S. Hamed, PhD, P.Eng

Mohamed is a Full Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the founding director of the Thermal Processing Laboratory (TPL) at McMaster University. & has more than 35 years of industrial experience in the field of thermal engineering. Dr. Hamed has developed and presented numerous training courses and seminars in the field of HVAC and Refrigeration Systems, Renewable Energy Systems, Energy Conservation and Management, Boiling Heat Transfer, and Two-phase Flows. He has served as a consultant in many projects in Canada and abroad.

Dr. Hamed is a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and a member of various professional associations such as ASHRAE, ASM International, TMS, CSME, CFD Society of Canada, ASME, and a senior member of SME. He is also an editorial board member of the Transactions of the CSME, the International Journal of Microstructure and Materials Properties (IJMMP), and the International Journal of Computational Thermal Sciences.
