After participating in this course, you will be able to:

Description
If you have been promoted to a supervisory or senior leadership position in the past year or want to sharpen your skills to become a more effective senior leader and manage in the future, this course will enable you to master the advanced concepts of leadership by learning the language of human behaviour : emotional intelligence, ultimate ownership, and management of people and processes within your organization.

You will learn how to make a successful transition from manager to leader/senior manager and to confidently assume the mantle of leadership and mentorship. You will learn the skills required to delegate responsibility and engage your employees on multiple levels. A large part of a leader’s job involves getting things done through other people, and this course will help you understand human behaviour and how to influence and direct other people’s performance as well as the ability to mentor and empower them. Finally, you will learn how to get the most out of your team, build trust, prevent/resolve conflict, communicate effectively, decision making, and problem solving. In addition, you will discover insight into your own ability to lead and manage your team to accomplish the mission and goals of your organization.

The DiSC Tools used for this course are Work of Leaders and Productive Conflict

The DiSC individual profiles will be included for students to review before class. This will provide students with better insight in their own behaviour, as well as self-awareness moving forward through the course material. In addition, the course is based on leadership improvement and soft skills. It is highly recommended that every student has their own laptop/computer with their web cam activated for the duration of the course. Body language and visual clues are 50 % of how humans communicate, therefore these resources are required to establish maximum student participation. This will ensure a more beneficial learning experience for everyone!

Instructor

Lori Elliott

Lori Elliott has been coaching, leading, and teaching adults for over 25 years in her professional career in training and development, organisational change management, higher and adult education, executive coaching, and a long career of managing and leading large teams. Lori has consulted to a number of Fortune 500 firms before moving to higher education in 2005 where she worked as Director of Career Education and then Associate Dean in the Pilon School of Business at Sheridan College. Lori holds a master of science degree in organisational psychology from the University of London and is currently on a four-year European sabbatical while working to complete a doctor of business administration in higher education management at the University of Bath. She has been living in Germany on the Dutch border for a little over three years where she works part-time in international education while writing her doctoral thesis.
