Overview
This course is held online with the following schedule (All times in Eastern Time Zone):

After participating in this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the tenets of emotional intelligence, including self-awareness
- Describe the difference between stress and anxiety
- Describe common myths and misconceptions when it comes to our emotions
- Use the Optimal Health Pyramid as a framework for better health
Description
It is well established that vulnerability is often a prerequisite for authentic connection; however, we live in a world where we are told that we are ‘ok,' ‘fine,' or just ‘good enough.
By exploring the principles surrounding emotional literacy and truly using emotional literacy as a superpower, by the end of the session, you will be able to understand.
Who Should Attend
This course is for those who want to develop skills and strategies to support themselves and others coping with stress, anxiety, depression or other mental health conditions.

Course Outline
- Welcome, Introduction, Learning Objectives, Assessment
- The Science of Emotions, including the "Funnel of Fear" analogy
- Understand common myths and misconceptions around our emotional health
- Be able to describe the ‘pixel vs picture’ effect
Instructor
Dr. Shahana Alibhai is a TEDx speaker, family physician and mental health expert. She has worked with many organizations, including the University of British Columbia, Scotiabank and Remax to help the audience understand their mental health. Her podcasts are heard internationally, and she has volunteered her time to speak to improve mental health in developing countries such as Let's Talk Nepal.
As a lead physician at one of British Columbia's largest youth health centres, much of Dr. Shahana's career focuses on those struggling with mental health. She has created an innovative program entitled "Think Like a Doc," where Dr. Shahana volunteers to perform outreach in various schools to allow them to play the role of a doctor and learn about their physical and mental health.
Her insights are highly sought after, and she's been featured in multiple major media, including CTV and Global. She is best known for her "Emotional Literacy for Better Mental Health" TEDx talk and as an International Women's Day panellist.
She has served on the UBC Faculty of Medicine Residency training program and is currently a National accreditor for the College of Canadian Family Physicians.
