After Participating in this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the theory behind project scope management (as defined by the Project Management Institute's PMBOK® Guide)
  • Produce a scope statement, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and WBS dictionary
  • Apply your learnings to future work projects

Description:
This webinar provides the basic concepts and functions of project scope management, including planning scope management; collecting requirements; defining scope; creating a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS); and WBS dictionary. An active case study is used throughout the two days to reinforce the taught concepts.

Project Management for Engineers: Scope is the first of the three-part Web Series: Project Management for Engineers: Scope, Time and Cost. In this series, we will cover the basic concepts and functions of project management planning, including scope management, time management (scheduling) and cost management (budgeting). By attending all three webinars, you will gain a basic understanding of three of the knowledge areas from the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) as defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Please note: It is strongly recommended that you take all three courses to gain a full understanding of project planning. The second and third webinars (Time and Cost) require knowledge of the concepts and theory covered in the first webinar (Scope).

Course Outline:

  • Definition of Project Scope Management
  • Techniques for the creation of a Scope Baseline: Scope statement, WBS and WBS dictionary
  • Overview of main planning tasks
  • Apply the teachings to one case study within the virtual classroom
  • Demonstration of theory using Scope Baseline Templates on case study

Unnati Patel

Unnati Patel has over 25 years of business management experience at senior executive levels within multi-national corporations with a focus in the Aerospace industry.
She has a proven track record of management of $10-$60M+ businesses and/or projects. She has technology, project and people management experience within Aerospace/high technology industry at SPAR Aerospace Ltd.; Honeywell Aerospace; General Electric (GE); and Pratt & Whitney Canada. She has been responsible for end-to-end program management and leadership for multiple products (both commercial and military applications within the Aerospace Industry.

She also has technical/production management experience within commercial/manufacturing industries at unionized FORD motor company and a non-unionized environment at Procter & Gamble (P&G). Her education includes a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Toronto as well as an MBA from Heriot-Watt University.
