Overview

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Learn about project objective and scope of work formulation and vetting. 
  • Gain knowledge about the value of proper protocol and effective communication in successful implementation of a project.
  • Understand safety in project construction phase, PPE, Fire Protection, Elevated Work, SPCC, RCRA, Arc Flash, LOTO, Emergency Action Plan
  • Learn about proven best practices that can be pivotal in successful execution of projects.
  • Get updated about proven best practices for orderly and effective commissioning and closure of projects.

Program Description
This course caters to professionals who are responsible for execution of projects involving construction, start-up and commissioning of manufacturing, commercial, and institutional facilities. Participants will be exposed to the A - Z of project management. The program begins with the formulation, vetting and acceptance of the project objective and takes the audience all the way to commissioning and project closure stage - navigating through all phases of project implementation or execution.

In addition to being introduced to commercially available project management programs/tools, participants will get the opportunity to learn lessons that are seldom covered in textbooks and are often acquired through experience.

  • Project team organization, management approval and protocol for communications and transactions
  • Development of functional specifications of the system or process
  • Project Management Tools (Project Schedule development and Project mapping and flow)
  • Project Performance Metrics
  • Construction and Project Implementation Phase Best Practices
  • Receive equipment, material, tools, equipment and supplies for the installation phase.
  • Pre-mobilization Transfer of Drawings, Technical Data and Important Safety Information.
  • On-site System Testing

  • Project team organization, management approval and protocol for communications and transactions
  • Phased Implementation of Long Multi-Segmented Projects

Day 2:

  • Development of functional specifications of the system or process
  • Project Management Tools
      • Project Schedule development
      • Project Mapping and Flow
  • Project Performance Metrics

Day 3:

  • Construction and Project Implementation Phase Best Practices
      • 5-P, 5-S and 5-C Processes
      • Safety in Construction Phase
      • PPE, Fire Protection, Elevated Work, SPCC, RCRA, Arc Flash, LOTO, Emergency Action Plan
      • Importance of Interpersonal Skills, Clear Communication and Clarification of Expectations on Projects
      • Professionalism, Workplace Harassment, Morale and Positive Reinforcement on Projects
  • Factory Testing - AKA: Factory Acceptance Test.

Day 4:

  • Receive equipment, material, tools, equipment and supplies for the installation phase.
  • Pre-mobilization Transfer of Drawings, Technical Data and Important Safety Information.
  • Required training of installation crew and necessary communications to all concerned
      • Meetings and documentation
  • On-site System Testing
  • Project Start-up, Commissioning and Closure

Instructor

S. Bobby Rauf, BSEE, P.E., C.E.M, MBA

Professor Bobby Rauf has developed and instructed engineering courses, seminars and workshops for over 14 years in the US and abroad.

He holds a patent on an electrical control system. Mr. Rauf has authored three books:

  • Finance and Accounting for Energy Engineers
  • Thermodynamics Made Simple for Energy Engineers
  • Electrical Engineering for Non-Electrical Engineers

Mr. Rauf served as a Senior Staff Engineer, Energy and Ergonomics Program Manager, at PPG Industries, Inc, for over 30 years. He has served as Adjunct Professor at Gardner-Webb University since 1989. He has taught Professional Development Seminars/workshops at UNCC, McNeese University, Texas A&M University, Lamar University, AEE, Association of Energy Engineers, Balfour Beatty, Saudi Aramco and PDHengineers.

Prof. Rauf is a Licensed (PE) Professional Engineer and a Certified Energy Manager. He was inducted as a “Legend in Energy” by AEE in 2014.
