Pavement Design, Construction, and Performance

This course can be customized and delivered to your team where and when it's convenient for you.

Online / On-site

OVERVIEW

Description

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Evaluate how traffic, materials, climate, drainage, and construction practices affect pavement performance

  • Apply established design concepts to develop appropriate flexible, rigid, and semi-rigid pavement systems

  • Select and configure pavement materials and layers based on performance requirements and site conditions

  • Identify design and construction deficiencies that contribute to premature pavement deterioration

  • Integrate quality assurance, maintenance, preservation, and life-cycle considerations into pavement decision-making

Description:

Pavement performance is shaped by decisions made throughout the asset life cycle, from initial design and construction through maintenance and preservation. When design assumptions do not reflect actual site conditions, or construction quality does not support design intent, premature deterioration, reduced serviceability, and unnecessary rehabilitation costs can follow.

This course will strengthen your ability to make pavement decisions with long-term performance in mind. You will learn how to assess the conditions that influence pavement behaviour, evaluate design and material choices, and identify where construction practices or deficiencies can affect field results. The emphasis is on understanding the relationships between decisions made at different stages of a pavement project and their consequences over time.

Practical examples and failure cases will help you identify potential problems, understand why pavements underperform, and determine where corrective or preventive action can have the greatest impact. You will leave better prepared to connect design, construction quality, maintenance, and preservation decisions to the performance and service life of pavement assets.
