Description
Managing stormwater is becoming increasingly complex as urban development, climate variability, regulatory requirements, and environmental expectations place greater demands on municipal and private infrastructure. Stormwater management ponds play a critical role in reducing flood risks, protecting receiving waters, controlling erosion, and supporting sustainable site development. Designing these systems requires a solid understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, regulatory requirements, and site-specific constraints.
This course provides a practical framework for the design and analysis of stormwater management ponds. You will examine the engineering principles that support runoff estimation, storage sizing, flow control, and pond configuration while exploring how stormwater facilities contribute to flood management, water quality protection, and watershed objectives. The course also reviews key design criteria, approval considerations, and the factors that influence long-term system operation and performance.

Senior Project Manager | Water Resources
Nav is a Senior Water Resources Engineer with 20 years of experience.
He has extensive experience in stormwater management and drainage planning and design throughout Canada, ranging from servicing /planning studies to detailed design of complex systems. His stormwater infrastructure design experience includes storm sewer systems, culverts, above and below-ground detention and water quality facilities, diversion structures, control and outfall structures, infiltration systems, rip-rap protection works, and instream rehabilitation works. He’s also experienced in base-flow augmentation, source control/rainwater management and other LID systems-relatively new techniques that support sustainable design.
His stormwater engineering knowledge, municipal development, and highway experience make him an excellent resource for a range of clients. He has also provided expert opinions and reports on legal proceedings related to drainage throughout BC.
