Fee: $1,645 / Online / Mar 4 - 5, 2027 / Course Code: 17-0312-ONL27
OVERVIEW
Please note, This instructor-led course has specific dates and times:
This course is held online over 2 days on the following schedule (All times in Eastern Time Zone): 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Eastern (Will include the usual breaks)
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Apply rock mechanics principles to assess and manage slope stability risks
- Evaluate and select appropriate slope stabilization methods for varied site conditions
- Conduct structured slope stability analyses to support design and safety decisions
- Interpret rock mass classification systems to inform engineering judgment
- Investigate slope failures and implement targeted stabilization strategies
Description
Rock slopes, excavations, and rock-supported structures present complex challenges where ground conditions, geological variability, and loading factors interact in unpredictable ways. Without a clear ability to interpret rock behaviour and assess stability, projects are exposed to safety risks, design inefficiencies, and potential failure.
Effective slope stability engineering requires more than theoretical knowledge. It demands the ability to evaluate rock mass conditions, apply appropriate classification systems, interpret investigation data, and make defensible design decisions under uncertainty. These capabilities are critical to reducing risk, optimizing design approaches, and ensuring long-term performance.
This course provides a structured, application-focused foundation in rock mechanics, with direct emphasis on slope stability. You will develop practical skills to assess rock mass behaviour, perform stability analyses, and apply stabilization methods in real project contexts. The tools and approaches covered can be applied immediately to support safer, more efficient engineering outcomes.
