Description
Agencies worldwide have long permitted the use of wastes and other by-products in roadway construction. Some of these products are intended to improve the pavement or subgrade materials' performance, while others are used to reduce the cost of higher-valued materials. Some agencies embrace the use of waste and by-product materials as contributing to the sustainability of our infrastructure and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, while others refer to their use in roadways as linear landfills.

This webinar provides examples of waste and by-product use and a history of their performance for various roadway applications. Advantages and disadvantages of using each type of product and some guidance for successfully designing and constructing each.
