Overview
This course is held online over 2 days on the following schedule (All times in Eastern Time Zone):
9:30 am to 5:30 pm Eastern (Will include the usual breaks)
Please note that it is a requirement for all attendees to sign a "Confidentiality Agreement" prior to receiving the course notes for this online offering.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Interpret laboratory soil test results to classify soils and support geotechnical design decisions
- Evaluate soil type, characteristics, compaction, hydraulic conductivity, compressibility, and shear strength parameters for engineering applications
- Select appropriate laboratory test methods and interpret results for short‑ and long‑term ground behavior
- Confidently communicate soil test findings and limitations to support engineering judgment
Description
In geotechnical practice, design decisions often rely on laboratory soil test data, yet those results are only valuable when they are correctly interpreted and applied within real project constraints. Professionals are frequently required to assess ground behaviour related to compaction, seepage, settlement, and shear strength, often with incomplete data and varying soil conditions.
This course provides a structured, practice‑focused foundation in soil characterization and laboratory testing, emphasizing how commonly measured soil properties influence engineering performance. In addition to focusing on laboratory testing procedures, the course provides a comprehensive review on the interpretation of soil mechanics laboratory testing results, and connects test results to engineering behaviour and design assumptions.
Who Should Attend
This course is designed for:
- Civil and geotechnical engineers
- Engineering technologists and technicians involved in laboratory or field testing
- Early‑career professionals building foundational geotechnical competency
- Practicing engineers seeking a refresher on soil testing interpretation
- Professionals responsible for reviewing, interpreting, or applying geotechnical investigation data
Time: 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM Eastern Time
