Overview

Please note, This instructor-led course has specific dates and times:
This course is held online over 2 days on the following schedule (All times in Eastern Time Zone):

10 am to 6 pm Eastern (Will include the usual breaks)

After participating in the course, you will be able to:

  • Apply the strut-and-tie method to analyze and design complex structural elements effectively.
  • Design and detail deep beams, including reinforcement requirements, to meet code standards.
  • Assess the impact of openings in beams and slabs and incorporate solutions into structural designs.
  • Develop efficient designs for corbels, dapped beams, and pile caps, integrating code requirements.
  • Create precise and comprehensive reinforcing plans for regions with discontinuities.

Description
Understanding and applying advanced structural design techniques is essential for creating safe, efficient, and durable systems. This course delves into the strut-and-tie approach, a versatile method for designing deep beams, corbels, pile caps, and discontinuous regions. Participants will gain insights into the theoretical foundations of the strut-and-tie model and its various applications, including addressing failure modes and conducting structural checks. Additionally, practical examples, such as the effects of openings in beams and slabs, will be explored to ensure robust designs.

Attendees will benefit from thoroughly exploring design procedures for specialized cases, including dapped beams and corbels, while understanding their compliance with code provisions. By combining theory with real-world applications, the course will help participants develop solutions that enhance structural systems. Detailed examples and workshops will provide opportunities to practice and refine problem-solving skills in designing and detailing complex elements.

Workshops will reinforce key concepts and demonstrate their application in various structural scenarios. Participants will leave with a clear understanding of approaching challenging design cases This course is ideal for professionals aiming to enhance their technical expertise and contribute to innovative and reliable structural designs.

Who Should Attend
This course is designed for civil and structural engineers, consulting architects, designers, and construction engineers involved in structural design. It is equally valuable for fabricators and manufacturers of structural systems seeking to understand design challenges, as well as municipal building officials and field reviewers responsible for ensuring compliance with design codes.

Additionally, this course will benefit professionals in complex projects involving deep beams, pile caps, and corbels. Educators and researchers aiming to expand their understanding of advanced structural methods and project managers overseeing large-scale structural developments can also gain valuable insights. This course suits anyone looking to advance their career by mastering innovative structural design techniques.
