Foundation Design in Permafrost - Overview

Foundations of structures built in frozen ground pose unique challenges that are different from warmer climates. These challenges include permafrost thawing and frost heave. Thawing can produce large differential settlements, while frost heave can produce significant non-uniform uplift force to the foundation. This webinar presents various design techniques that can be used to design shallow and pile foundations. Bearing capacity and creep settlement analyses will be discussed for ice-poor and ice-rich conditions.
